When it comes to daily routines, the buzz seems to be about including certain tasks to your morning or night time routine in order to make it “ideal”. But the truth is, there is no perfect routine, so you don’t need to try to chase one. It is much better to create a routine with habits that benefit you, help you find balance in your life, and help with any challenges you have related to your habits.
Good and Bad Habits in Your Routine
The perfect daily routine for you is going to be one where you become aware of all your habits, the good and the bad. Before you can add in healthy habits, you need to identify and remove the unhealthy ones.
What are some unhealthy habits you have right now that you want to put a stop to? It doesn’t have to be a habit like biting your nails or drinking too much coffee. Maybe it is simpler than that and only applies to you, like keeping your phone turned on at night, and allowing it to disrupt your sleep. Other people might be okay with this, but if it is bothering you, then you know it is important to develop a healthy habit of turning your phone off at night.
Set Yourself Up for Success
Start planning ahead with each of the habits in your routine, to make them easier to accomplish. For example, if you want to start doing your workout in the morning, then set out your workout clothes the night before. Have your bottle of water filled up already, and your yoga mat ready to go.
If you want a habit of getting your most important tasks done in the morning before you do anything else, make sure your desk is ready to work, you are in the mindset to work, and your project materials are ready to go ahead of time.
Balancing Your Life, Happiness, and Productivity
A “perfect” routine is one that gives you balance, not restrictions. It should be a good balance to allow for happiness, productivity, and fulfillment. This is not about becoming a workaholic and praising yourself for the fact that you never have time off. If you want the perfect daily routine, have time for self-care, social interactions, and time for the things you really love to do.
Routines and Habits Are Not Set in Stone
Remember that even with the most perfect, ideal daily routine, there are always going to be changes and adjustments. No two days will ever be exactly the same, so the more open-minded you are to this, the happier you will ultimately be with your routine.
