With just a few simple ingredients and the right technique, you’ll have perfectly cooked chips in under 30 minutes. Follow these easy steps to make homemade air fryer French fries that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Air Fryer French Fries

Prep Time:  10 minutes
Cook Time:  20-25 minutes
Servings:  2-3

Ingredients:

500g potatoes (such as Maris Piper or King Edward)
1 tbsp olive oil
½ tsp salt (plus extra to taste)
¼ tsp black pepper
½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)

Instructions

1. Peel the potatoes if desired, then cut them into thin, even fries (about 1cm thick). For extra crispiness, soak the fries in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch, then drain and pat dry with a clean kitchen towel.
2. In a bowl, toss the fries with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika (if using) until evenly coated.
3. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C. Arrange the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding for even cooking.

4. Air fry for 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. Check for doneness, then continue cooking for another 5-10 minutes until golden and crispy.
5. Remove from the air fryer and sprinkle with extra salt if needed. Serve immediately with your favourite dipping sauce.

Cooking Tips:

Soaking the potatoes in water before cooking helps achieve a crispier texture. Just be sure to dry them thoroughly before seasoning.
For extra crispiness, cook in batches instead of overcrowding the air fryer basket.
Experiment with seasonings like chilli powder, Parmesan cheese, or dried herbs for a flavour boost.

Storage Advice:

Store any leftover fries in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Reheat in the air fryer at 180°C for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
Avoid microwaving, as this can make the fries soft and soggy.
