Air Fryer Apple Crisps

Air Fryer Apple Crisps

Air fryer apple crisps are a simple, healthy, and delicious snack, perfect for satisfying your cravings without the guilt. Made with fresh apples and a touch of spice, these crisps turn beautifully golden and crispy in the air fryer, making them a great alternative to shop-bought versions. Whether you enjoy them as a light snack, a topping for porridge, or packed in lunchboxes, these naturally sweet treats are easy to make and full of flavour.

With just a few ingredients and minimal effort, you can create perfectly crisp apple slices in under 30 minutes. The air fryer removes moisture while intensifying the natural sweetness of the apples, giving you a crunchy and satisfying bite. These apple crisps are a great way to use up excess fruit and can be customised with cinnamon or other warming spices for extra flavour.

Instructions:

1. Wash and dry the apples, then core them if desired (you can leave the core in for a more natural look). Using a sharp knife or mandoline, slice the apples into very thin, even slices (about 2mm thick).
2. In a bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning. If using, add cinnamon and maple syrup or honey, and mix well to coat the slices evenly.
3. Preheat the air fryer to 160°C. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they don’t overlap.

4. Air fry for 10 minutes, then check on the slices and flip them over if needed. Continue cooking for another 5-10 minutes, or until they are golden and crisp. Keep an eye on them towards the end to prevent burning.
5. Remove from the air fryer and allow to cool completely—this helps them crisp up further. Enjoy immediately or store for later.

Cooking Tips:

The thinner the slices, the crispier the apple chips will be. Using a mandoline ensures even thickness.
If the apple slices are still slightly soft when you take them out, let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes; they will crisp up as they cool.
Experiment with different spices such as nutmeg or mixed spice for added warmth and depth of flavour.

Storage Advice:
Store apple crisps in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. If they lose their crispness, pop them back in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes.
Avoid storing them in a humid environment, as moisture can make them soft.
For longer storage, keep them in a sealed container with a silica gel packet to absorb any excess moisture.
